Chris’ signature color is Sponge which he describes as a Green-Beige.

Lela Rose was inspired by the obscured imagery and hazy aura of the artists’ Gerhard Richters’ paintings while visiting The Chicago Art Institute; so this along with her signature color Sea Green, she’s selected these prominent colors: Bronze, Tanger and Burnt Clay.

Kenneth Cole was also inspired during his travels to Ireland while sitting in front of a warm fire in an old Irish castle. With Saffron Yellow being his signature color which he likes to layer with other spicy colors: Terracotta, Red Apple and Fire Orange.

What an amazing array of color which will certainly inspire the creation of stunning bead art jewelry designs!

Mustard Yellow is clearly an obvious choice for the color Bamboo, but there are some more bead color options which could offer similar color ranges but because these colors are transparent rather than opaque like the Tila beads pictured above they take on less o the mustard yellow color: Transparent MAB Light Topaz, Transparent Light Topaz, Transparent Amber.

Metallic Matte Gold is another good choice.

Remember that the bead colors mentioned are consistent across bead types which includes seed beads, fire polished beads, Czech Glass Druk / Pressed beads, Swarovski Crystal NOTE not all bead types carry the same range of colors.
<div style="padding-bottom: 0px; and believe me as you see the designs you will recognize that not only are these bead art designers unique, but that you just might have a treasure trove of their designs in your jewelry box!

Atlanta Vintage Jewelry is apparently the originator of this video. Check their website for their current selection of Vintage Bead Art Jewelry and a list of Vintage jewelry suppliers.

<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBf2inLO7KBIFhiSo7GmZVmb_nK6iOsI0WIhrMhJfC7XQRagtx6DNawIDidASV6irl1lPj8ybOnvOzid3Ane9fHorzVsinyuJsT_JgivYh8Zdtu-jni0Hv-UwuFdXw21RCOiNE0W6dGQ/?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('e5dfa450-5df7-4985-9c5c-bbe0e441c263'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "

";" alt="">

The Bead Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06170419014107868417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827999499091057644.post-67395715916367616102011-08-09T12:34:00.001-07:002011-08-09T12:34:59.753-07:002011 Bead Color Trends: Czech Glass Beads Swarovski Elements
Pantone’s color forecast for Fall / Winter 2011 is spectacular as usual and sure to stimulate some amazing bead art and jewelry designs.

I will elaborate more in another post about what fashion designers are saying about how the 2011 Fall / Winter colors inspired their designs, but for now I wanted to basically give a shout out to some online bead stores that really help bead art jewelry designers by offering the current seasons color palettes for beading.

I do believe that the availability of Pantone’s colors every season inspires more bead stores to create mixes of color coordinated beads and bead mixes.

I attempted to coordinate beads and bead colors when I first discovered the value of using the Pantone color charts but must admit that I found it a bit overwhelming. So I’m thrilled to find the following information available online.

Preciosa-Ornela website currently offers a bead color palette which seems to coordinate nicely with Pantone’s colors for Fall / Winter 2011.

Phlox, Deep Teal and Bamboo – shown in the above color chart - are the dominant in these Preciosa Bead Fashion Trends News Flash – check out their website for more colors.

Jesse James Beads is another website that creates bead mixes based on Pantone’s Fashion color palette (currently Fall 2011 not seen online, but it’s still August). Many of their mixes look lovely; however, personally, I would just suggest to be sure to read what makes up their bead mixes as I noticed that they seem to include Czech Glass, Japanese and Chinese beads in the same mix.

Swarovski Elements Crystals and Beads and Pendants are probably one of the best at following every color fashion trend up to two seasons in advance so we certainly want to keep an eye what they have in their Crystal bead pipeline. There are so many sources for Swarovski Crystals, but HarMan Beads is a terrific resource for determining in advance what’s coming in Swarovski Crystal – you’ll probably want to bookmark their webiste.

Technorati Tags: bead art jewelry,beads,phlox,purple,lavender,bamboo,gold,yellow,teal,pantone,fashion,color,colour
The Bead Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06170419014107868417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827999499091057644.post-72185037632194699812011-08-07T15:59:00.001-07:002011-08-07T15:59:01.208-07:00Trend-Wrap: 4 Bead Art Jewelry Design Fashion Trends To Try
This is an end of season trend wrap of four jewelry fashion trends that I think would look fabulous in beads.

Fall / Winter 2011 Fashion Season is right around the corner but there’s still lots of HOT weather left in most parts of the country to still rock Summer trends.

Along with other sources I really like looking through the trends as forecasted by the Direction Accessories Trend Forecasting (photo’s) report which follows the trends seen on the runways.

I’m sure there’s lots of beautifully designed beaded items already created, and if yours fit any of these trends, please share.

Here’s one item of many highlighted during London Fashion Week categorized as POOF and totally appropriate – as these earrings from House of Holland makes the statement; ‘this kitchy Poof adornment is sure to score some fashion points. We can't wait to cheer this trend on--with our chic oversized pom-poms in hand, or on our heads, of course!’

Handcrafted and hand beaded hair accessories, well, there never seems to be enough of a selection. One material that came to my mind for creating some of the most unique hair accessories is used by Polymer Clay bead artists; I’ve seen such breathtakingly beautiful polymer clay creations which would certainly lend themselves to some amazing handcrafted, hand beaded hair accessories. Again, perhaps I’ve missed what’s already been created, so please share.

Can it be that wooden beads will come back and make a fashion statement? It was evident almost immediately that I had certainly been missing out on valuable sales and opportunities – my decision to not get on board sooner immediately came to mind!

I didn’t make the same mistake when I came across Artfire.

There’s always a learning curve of new features, down time when populating a new site, trying to manage both sites simultaneously and filling order – interestingly enough sales do increase.

The recent opportunity to express why Artfire sellers selected it as their main selling venue; along with the incentive to possibly win a $500 gift certificate got me thinking and as a result listing my reason for selling on Artfire.

Here are the top 5 reason why I enjoy having a Pro-member account selling on Artfire:

SEO tools, tutorials, guides and results that are realized almost immediately as you see your items indexed in the major search engines and shopping sites; along with ease of listing tools, and integration with the major social media websites.
Flat rate monthly fee no final value fees regardless of the number of items listed, no percentage of sales or relisting fees (ongoing promotions for Free monthly Pro-member accounts for referrals and during other promotions member fees can go as low as $5.95 - and I thought my original fee of $15.95 was an incredible bargain over what I was paying on another venue)
The look and feel of your Studio can be personalized in a number of layouts and color schemes to fit your style or the season.
At-a-glance dashboard – which seems to be always evolving for the better – offers several tools; but especially the blogging tools and collections features which amazingly do bring not only additional views to the products in your Artfire Studio, but also sales.
All in all, any ecommerce selling site which is gaining traction due to bringing in sales, managing their challenges, and listening to their community will experience growing pains; however, when sellers are seeing increased sales month-over-month (you can view running totals during the month) even during these growth phases – glitches and all – it is a testament that Artfire’s management is doing something right!

Become an ArtFire Pro with this link and get your 3rd month free! The Bead Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06170419014107868417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827999499091057644.post-66783955251901251982011-03-07T11:59:00.001-08:002011-03-07T11:59:37.618-08:00March Bead Sale in Artfire Bead Studio
Here are the coupon codes for March The Bead Stylist Artfire Bead Studio.

Take advantage of this Triple Coupon Play for the Month of March in honor of March Madness & National Craft Month:

MARBEAD20 gets you 20% off of your order total (any size)
MARBEADS30 gets you 30% off of you $40 or more order
FREESHIP-MAR gets you Free Shipping on any order during the month of March

Coupons can not be combined, but they can be used multiple times.

The Bead Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06170419014107868417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827999499091057644.post-63036580130104967622011-01-28T15:15:00.000-08:002011-01-29T16:19:41.047-08:00DIRECTIONS TREND FINDER: WHAT’S HOT Upcoming Trends Tassels & Colorful Beads
The Directs Trend Finder Reports are so on point with the trends in jewelry and accessories that will be worn with the current seasons fashions. Two of my favorites that I will be keeping an eye on are numbers one and four – I’m especially interested to see how bead artists develop these trends in their designs.

The New Retro: All you need to do is take a look at the engagement ring of the future Queen of England to see that retro is returning – in a big way. In fact, it has been for years! Retro styles are romantically reminiscent of a kinder, gentler age of white gloves, hats and chic New York style cocktail parties. The new retro mixes yesterdays romance with today’s more casual style to create an elegant, but less fussy feel. You’ll wow them at teatime or at a late theater date when you show up with ½ ct tw of dazzling diamonds sparkling from the heart shaped center of this necklace (J154726).
Eclectic Naturals: Remember the childhood joy of collecting shells at the sea, or pressing autumn leaves between the pages of a book? Well designers haven’t forgotten the joy that nature brings. Nature themes and colors, as well as natural rustic fabrics were all over the runways this year. As a result, some of today’s biggest jewelry designers like Robert Lee Morris, Barbara Bixby, Stephen Dweck, Orit and Or Paz are artistically interpreting nature’s shapes and incorporating its elements into jewelry. Mixed metals, crystals, rough gems, natural materials and organic shapes are popular. Definitely inspired by nature, Stephen Dweck wistfully wraps the wrist in this textured branch-inspired 14K gold clad hinged cuff (J152596).
World Inspired: Today we live in a mobile society with more people traveling than ever. As a result, today’s confident women are exposed a variety of worldly cultures and want that global feel in their wardrobe! Fashionistas are accessorizing that Italian or French fashion suit with something chic and native with ethnic or tribal influences. The mix says, “sophisticated”. J155425 has oxidized sterling that gives the piece an old-world feel that is enhanced by the contrasting colors of a center oval turquoise cabochon, surrounded by red coral cabochons, all bezel set.
Today’s Neutrals: While color has been hot on the runways, the balance being struck by designers is a new neutral. While black, white and gray will always be chic, runways today are treating us to muted mauves, pale palettes, shimmering pastels and smoky silver. Today’s new neutrals can be styled with other neutrals for a sophisticated monochromatic look or mixed with a variety of brighter colors for chic contrast. Here’s some information regarding delays in shipments of Miyuki Tila Beads & DuraCoat orders from a1BeadsBeadArtJewelrySupplies :
New! Miyuki Japanese Tila Seed Beads 30 Colors
I was just informed that all Miyuki Duracoat & Tila bead orders were delayed due to not just an overwhelming demand, but also because Miyuki detected quality issues on the beads when they were well into production – about 3-4 weeks.
Once the quality issues were resolved they had to restart production; as a result all promised delivery dates were not only extended 4 – 6 weeks, but quantities were limited in shipments to those authorized to sell Miyuki products here in the United States and who ultimately I purchase from.
I apologize for the delay but will say from the sample card I received the beads are BEAUTIFUL and worth the wait – BTW … expected ship dates from my supplier is around the last week in September.
Free Shipping was to end September 1, but due to not only the number of orders I’m receiving, but the delay from Miyuki the offer is extended until September 31, 2010.The Bead Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06170419014107868417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827999499091057644.post-39322575998594093662010-08-27T19:35:00.001-07:002010-08-27T19:37:12.388-07:00The Bead Stylist: Black Friday ….
Let me explain.

<img style="border-bottom: 0px; and apparently people that are looking at the new pics have an opinion too as I’ve had more sales in two weeks on this selling venue Artfire than I’ve had I think since I started selling there.

Actually, I kind of felt a bit insulted, well more like embarrassed, I thought ‘were my pictures that bad people were looking at them and just passing them by…’ anyway, true to my nature no matter how difficult or challenging things may appear initially there’s ALWAYS something positive to gain from the experience.

I’m way behind schedule for what I thought I had planned to accomplish for this month of August, but

I sense a new plan forming.

Anyway, here’s to hoping you like my Artfire gallery front page – you’ll clearly see why I’m calling it Black Friday.

<div style="padding-bottom: 0px; which always interests me so I will post about those articles later.

The book Bugle Bead Bonanza by Jamie Cloud Eakin, published by Lark Books, was mentioned and caught my attention because there really are just so few books available or dedicated to bugle beading. Bugle beads are used to embellish fashions but are quite versatile due to their various sizes, textures and finishes; the colors can match/coordinate with just about any bead color you’re using whether you use Miyuki Japanese beads, TOHO Japanese beads and Czech glass seed beads – just try and get the same bead brand.

A search of one of my suppliers for just one brand, Miyuki Bugle beads returned over 200 results.

If you don’t have a favorite bead supplier for your bugle beads or are looking for or need to coordinate specific colors and finishes you can send an email to bead.stylist@gmail.com.

Amazon is a great place to check reviews on the book Bugle Bead Bonanza; it’s also selling for less than the list price of $21.95 (the following is an affiliate link).

The Bead Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06170419014107868417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827999499091057644.post-10282510912301493582010-07-11T20:12:00.001-07:002010-07-11T20:12:54.250-07:00The Bead Stylist: BeadWork Magazine My Beading Highlights<div style="padding-bottom: 0px; here’s a link Accessory Trends: Leopard.

Of course beads are ALWAYS in fashion and bead embellishing is still in focus for the season - in all their variations.

A pair of black suede bell-bottom pants by fashion designer Emilio Pucci are embellished with beads, crystal rhinestones and feathers that are simply stunning – wish I had a picture to share (on page 43 in the July issue of Elle).

The additional photo’s above are a fringe beaded belt $1,410 and Swarovski Crystal embellished suede boot $1,295.

And the macrame dress, well this isn’t the ‘70 macrame people typically think of when the word is mentioned. Designers seem to be using macrame more and more in creating their designs; it’s only a matter of time before beads are added!

So why even bother highlighting such out-of-reach-priced fashions and accessories?

It’s always interesting to see how creative people gain inspiration from current fashion trends creating their own fashions and accessories while staying true to their artistic values – I’m envisioning a pair of hand-embellished suede boots that are ‘crazy’ and one-of-a-kind (OOAK) – can’t wait!
The Bead Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06170419014107868417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827999499091057644.post-84483079142187654122010-06-21T20:42:00.001-07:002010-06-21T20:42:35.655-07:00The Bead Stylist: Summer Time Beading Classes Starting Soon
Although I’m very excited and nervous about teaching these classes especially since I have absolutely no experience, so I put the word out to the experts bead artists that I follow on Facebook hoping for some direction on offering bead weaving classes to teenagers and was a bit surprised not to get any feedback or comments at all.

This made me really wonder what in the world am I getting myself into!

I did explain to the girls that teaching about beads and bead weaving is all new to me and that we’d be learning from each other and they seem ok with that.

Thank goodness they are a talented and exceptionally smart teenagers!

True to my nature in that I try not to let obstacles totally defeat me I decided that it would be a good idea to blog about the experience – who knows someone else may ask a question similar to mine and hopefully this will give them some frame of reference.

I may not be very experienced at teaching this stuff but my research skills and avid desire to learn as much about the beading world as possible I feel gives me a certain edge; for instance, one of the websites I will be using as a primer was one I happened on several years ago when I was looking around for an online tutorial to learn basic stitches. Beads East was the only one that I could find out of all the tons of beading information on the internet that offered free animated lessons.

So I will stick with what worked then and is even better now because their website has improved and the tutorials are still free!

And too, recalling what my main challenges were starting out I figure that the first class or two will focus on how the variation in beads and bead types and bead color basics.

Understanding how to read patterns, especially if we are going to focus on bead weaving, is an extremely important skill to learn right from the start.

So I’m hoping to accomplish the following in the first two classes but in a very hands on way:

Introduce:

bead size, type, color

bead differences by making simple beaded projects like a peyote stitch ruler (I still have the one I made)

reading a basic bead pattern

My main online source of reference for learning the bead weaving stitches will be Beads East.

I’m still open for suggestions and comments, but at least I feel like I’m off to a good start! Here’s a picture of two of the girls that will be attending
The Bead Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06170419014107868417noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827999499091057644.post-51975373904953576722010-06-17T22:31:00.001-07:002010-06-17T22:31:09.688-07:00The Bead Stylist: ColorSuckr Online Color Wheel
I discovered this tool which works like a color wheel, but for me it’s much easier, yet for others it may well be a nice compliment to the color wheel.

One of the most time consuming creative aspects of any bead art jewelry designing is selecting complimentary colors.

And admittedly knowing the ‘technical’ bead colors can also be a challenge when first starting out.

I laugh now, but looking back when I first started out with beads and knowing absolutely nothin’ at the time and before my wonderful customers started educating me, I purchased the largest box of crayons available and if a bead color was close to the crayon color, well I would name the bead had a new name.

From a1 Bead Art Jewelry Supplies Bead Mix Collections I selected a Delica Bead Mix in Caribbean Blue which is a pretty basic extraction, but it will extract the most complex color combinations too.

It’s really quite simple you just need the url of the photo you would like to extract colors from.

Bead mixes are terrific to work with and one great thing I realized is that when you click on the link to show the color schemes (shown in above picture) you can actually use the schemes to create your own bead mixes.

The ColorSuckr tool will direct you to various websites that will let you use urls of their photo’s but remember you can use any photo url. You can easily create a url of an item by scanning or taking a photo and uploading it to Flickr or Picasa.

If you know of any other tool like this that you would like to share please leave a comment.
The Bead Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06170419014107868417noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827999499091057644.post-29625346247959981882010-06-17T22:26:00.001-07:002010-06-17T22:26:15.541-07:002010 Spring Summer Colors from Pantone

I’ve been ignoring my blog posts for way to long and realized that the 2010 Fall / Winter colors are already out and I haven’t even posted Spring / Summer 2010.

Trending fashion colors are so important in designing your bead art jewelry designs; especially if you want to go a bit more commercial. Typically, the colors forecast by Pantone are the most prominent for the fashion Season – like where haven’t we seen Turquoise?

But it’s a really good idea to check the Pantone website often as they often have a color of the day or color of the month or some other color pallets which I’m sure will inspire you creatively!

<img style="border-right-width: 0px; I was really taken by how the obvious may not be so obvious this fashion season.

Case in point. You might think that Creme Brulee or Nomad will be the neutrals for of the season; but Iron is really a strong front runner.

Pairing Honey Yellow with Iron is oh, so lovely – and it seems that more and more designer’s are using Iron or varying shades of this color as the neutral or primary color in their designs.

I will post in more detail which items are in my color collages. I have a few more to pull together, but this is a good place to start.

Pictured below: Majolica Blue, Honey Yellow, Burnt Sienna, Nomad & Warm Olive.
<div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; Wall Street Journal
Is this the beginning of the end of fashion shows as we know them? This article is an eye opener with lots of good bits of information; some things I never knew like in most countries the government sponsors their designers fashion shows.

Which is the basis for the article. Designers must rely on sponsorships to present their fashions, yet the major sponsors are backing out; it will be more than interesting to see how this looks for the 2010 / 2011 fashion season.

Viewing the fashion shows even just via slide shows or on video from sites like the New York Times Fashion are such a source of inspiration and direction for those of us not even associated with the fashion industry; how devastating this could be for those totally dependant on the industry.

It was clear early in the economic down turn that there would be major changes in the fashion industry, which I blogged about previously.

Yet, the bright side is that these designers love designing and don't want to do anything else; and with passion like that there's no telling how they will assist in possibly redefining the fashion industry - stay tuned.
The Bead Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06170419014107868417noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827999499091057644.post-17930051971453924882009-06-18T15:18:00.001-07:002009-06-18T15:18:25.576-07:00The Bead Stylist: Using Low Cost Metals Brass, Copper, Pewter Beads in Your Jewelry
I'm glad I came across this article as I was wondering if jewelry designers, to cut cost but not compromise design, were giving much thought to using less expensive metal beads.

The chart at the end of the writers comments gives an at-a-glance look at the make up and care of these low cost metal beads.

I hope you find this information useful.
The Bead Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06170419014107868417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827999499091057644.post-73363556562597605912009-06-15T07:14:00.001-07:002009-06-15T07:14:11.107-07:00The Bead Stylist: Spring Cleaning Tips & Free E-Book Secrets of Savvy Etsy Sellers
I came across some links as I constantly scour blogs and other articles and realized these links could be very useful as many bead artists, designers, and Etsy sellers may be taking on some Spring cleaning as they either get ready to take the Summer off or get prepared to start selling again in September.

Free E-Book she just asks that you share the link Secrets of Savvy Etsy Sellers

Spring Cleaning Get Ready for Selling

Home Jewelry Business Success Tips

Tutorial Sell Jewelry on Etsy

If I locate more I think I will update this post.
The Bead Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06170419014107868417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827999499091057644.post-88637625603089279422009-06-15T07:08:00.001-07:002009-06-15T07:08:51.251-07:00The Bead Stylist: Macrame Part of the Fashion's Arts & Crafts Movement NYTimes Fashion & Style
Apparently my grade school art teacher understood the history of Macrame as pointed out in this NYTimes article and taught us this fine art - I guess this tells my age because as we know art classes in public school is in itself history.

The pieces created were quite impressive, not basket hangers, or pot holders even bracelets, but elaborate bead and feather embellished wall hangings, and detailed wine bottle covers were what ended up being put on display at our local art museum in Montclair, NJ.

I kept up with the craft for a while and never did make a plant hanger.

So it's quite nice to see what's happening in fashion with this technique. Designers are making Macrame modern again by, from what can see, going back to it's roots - detailed, ornamental knotting.

Combining mesh, chiffon, silk-cotton cording into high-heeled sandals, dresses and vests. With designer's the likes of Jimmy-Choo commanding $2500 for a macrame clutch and macrame belts making it to the runway it looks like this trend will probably take off.

All in Knots Slide Show
The Bead Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06170419014107868417noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827999499091057644.post-14133069768252309672009-06-09T10:15:00.001-07:002009-06-09T10:15:55.199-07:00The Bead Stylist: Marcia DeCoster's Review of Bead & Button Show
I've been anxiously awaiting any feedback from an attendee of this years Bead & Button Show and Marcia DeCoster is the first to post to her blog that I've come across.

I just took a brief look at a few of the links listed on her blog, and left my comments; but wanted to post her information here before returning and drooling over some amazing beads, and bead weaving.

MadDesigns
The Bead Stylisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06170419014107868417noreply@blogger.com1
